The mining town of Linden is preparing to celebrate its 56th anniversary with a series of events during its annual Linden Town Week (LTW).
The official calendar of activities was launched on Thursday by the Linden Mayor and Town Council, outlining a programme that includes several signature events.
This year’s celebrations will run from April 24 to May 5 under the theme, “We Are One People, One Nation, One Destiny.”
Mayor Dominique Blair said during the launch that the community’s greatest strength has always been its people, noting their achievements in sports, business, the arts, culture and community leadership.
“As we reflect on where Linden has come from and where it stands today, we must also think seriously about where Linden is going. We must continue to plan, dream and build towards a brighter future for our town and our people,” Blair said.
He added that Linden remains strategically positioned and rich in history, culture and opportunity.
Blair said the town has shown resilience over the past 56 years, evolving beyond its origins as a bauxite mining community.
“Over the years we have seen Linden transform from being primarily a mining town to one of Guyana’s emerging tourism and investment destinations,” he said.
He also highlighted the Blue Lake and the growth of activities such as kayaking, eco-tourism, sports, culture and entrepreneurship.
The week of celebrations will include expositions, cultural showcases, adventure tours, arts and crafts, pageantry, fetes and other creative activities.
