The United States and Israel have launched attacks on Iran, with U.S. President Donald Trump confirming that “major combat operations” are under way and calling for regime change in Tehran.
Targets reportedly included the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, the presidential office in Tehran and multiple military sites across Iran, according to regional media reports.
Iran responded with retaliatory strikes on Israel, the Israeli military said. Explosions believed to be linked to Iranian attacks were also reported in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.
In remarks urging Iranians to rise against their leadership, Trump said: “It will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations.”
Washington has been intensifying pressure on Tehran to agree to a new nuclear agreement. On Friday, Trump said he was “not happy” with Iran’s negotiating position in ongoing talks over its nuclear programme.
The United Kingdom said it did not want to see “a wider regional conflict” in the Middle East and was not involved in the attack, according to officials familiar with the matter. (BBC News)
