14-year-old mother died from heart failure and anaemia

A post-mortem examination has found that 14-year-old Aleena Preetam of Supenaam, Essequibo Coast, died from heart failure and anaemia, police said.

The examination was conducted on Thursday at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh. The body was later handed over to relatives for burial.

Police said the teenager died at her home sometime between Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
Preliminary enquiries indicated that the girl, who lived with her parents and her one-month-old child, was last seen alive on Sunday evening. Relatives discovered her unresponsive at about 05:30 hrs on Monday and took her to the Suddie Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police said no marks of violence were observed on the body during an initial examination.
Investigations are continuing.
