A 15-year-old mother is fighting for her life at the New Amsterdam Hospital after being stabbed multiple times in Heatburn Village, East Bank Berbice.
Tiana Chapman, who has a 10-month-old child, was reportedly attacked by the father of her baby, Christopher Ali, known as “Pinky,” 28, with whom she had a troubled relationship.
Chapman’s aunt, Daunzel Denheart, described discovering her niece severely injured. “My nephew said, ‘Come, come, see Pinky jook up Tiana.’ We ran out there… They put her in the car and rushed her to the hospital,” Denheart told Ignite News.
A nurse at the hospital said the teen was stabbed in the chest, abdomen, back, head, foot, and beneath the jaw near the carotid artery. “They say it’s about 25 stabs… All her clothes soaked with blood,” the aunt said, adding, “She got jook up and nobody came and called anybody in front there. And if he (nephew) wasn’t there… we wouldn’t have known anything.”
Family members said the suspect had previously abused Chapman, and that police and social services had warned him to stay away. “They talking to he and tell he to stay away from she… But he ain’t staying away,” Denheart said.
Authorities are investigating the attack and have urged anyone with information to come forward. Chapman remains in the Intensive Care Unit as doctors treat her life-threatening injuries.
