One Communications investing US$25M to support energy, commercial growth
One Communications CEO Abraham Smith

Telecommunications company One Communications plans to invest more than US$25 million this year to expand national connectivity, reinforcing the sector’s role in supporting Guyana’s growing oil and gas, and business sectors.

Chief Executive Officer Abraham Smith said the investment will target areas including Linden, Berbice, and parts of the East Coast, using a combination of fibre and fixed wireless technology to close remaining connectivity gaps.

“One of our priorities is ensuring real-time telemetry and instant communication for the oil and gas sector, as well as high-speed data transmission for the wider business community,” Smith said on Ignite Insights. “We have to match the speed of business with the speed of our networks,” he added.

One Communications currently reports roughly 75 per cent fibre coverage nationwide. The company said its vision centres on resilient networks and responsive customer service to support businesses and communities across the country.

As Guyana expands its position as a regional energy and investment hub, Smith emphasised that reliable, nationwide connectivity will be critical to enabling full participation in the next phase of economic growth.
