One Communications is ramping up investment in Berbice, identifying Region Six as a key pillar in Guyana’s expanding digital and industrial transformation, the company’s chief executive said.
In an interview with Ignite News, Chief Executive Officer Abraham Smith said the telecommunications provider is aligning its strategy with the country’s rapid economic expansion, as energy projects, logistics growth and digital services increasingly extend beyond the capital.
“AI data centres are creating booms around the world, and Guyana is experiencing economic growth at the same time as this technology shift. It’s a unique moment and we are ready for that transformation,” Smith said.
Smith said reliable, high-speed connectivity has become critical infrastructure as emerging industries demand resilient networks.
The company is expanding its fibre network in Berbice, including in Palmyra, while strengthening partnerships within communities, he added.
“When we expand our fibre network into Palmyra, it’s not just about faster Internet. It’s about creating access, opportunity and ensuring every Guyanese moves forward together,” Smith said.
With nationwide fibre expansion underway and Region Six identified as a strategic growth corridor, One Communications said it aims to ensure Berbice is fully integrated into Guyana’s evolving economy driven by innovation, infrastructure and inclusive development.
