Franklin Wilson was re-elected unopposed as president of the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) during the body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday at the Racquet Centre.
The new executive lineup includes Gordon Spencer as Vice President and Roger Rogers as General Secretary, both retaining their previous roles. Bjorn Williams remains a Committee Member, while Kiana Benjamin returns as Treasurer. The executive also welcomes Denroy Livan as Public Relations Officer/Organising Secretary, along with new Committee Members Lisa Oudit and Nedisha Tinnis.
In his address after the election, Wilson thanked outgoing President Paul Meusa for his leadership, acknowledged the sport’s recent setbacks, and pledged to prioritise its revival with a focus on athlete welfare. He outlined plans to promote powerlifting in schools and communities, nurture young talent, and secure corporate support.
He also praised the Government of Guyana for its commitment to establishing a high-performance centre, which he said will be vital for regional and international competitions.
With the renewed leadership team in place, the GAPLF aims to elevate the profile of powerlifting and foster a culture of excellence across Guyana.
