
The Guyana Chess Federation (GCF) will hold the National U16 Rapid Chess Championship on Sunday at Christ Church Secondary School, with games starting at 9:00 am. The tournament is sponsored by Kitty Square Mall.
The seven-round Swiss system event features a 15-minute plus five-second increment per move time control. Players under 16, born after January 1, 2010, will compete for titles in both the Open and Girls categories.
Candidate Master Sachin Pitamber will defend his title in the Open division against challengers including Alexander and Nicholas Zhang, Alek Ubaldo-Singh, Rafael Park, Abel Fernandez Ciria, Aiden Tinne, Jeremy Cole, and others.
In the Girls division, the title is open with reigning U14 and U12 champions Kataleya Sam and Divya Persaud among the contenders. Other participants include Rebha Lachhman, Emma John, Lusianna Farlot, and Angelina Yhap. Woman Candidate Master Aditi Joshi’s participation remains unconfirmed.
Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in both categories, with additional medals for top U14, U12, and U10 players.
Registration is open at www.guyanachess.gy. Entry fees are $1,200 for GCF members and $2,000 for non-members, payable via MMG by Friday, 14.
