
Police are investigating an incident in which a man was beaten by an assailant inside the compound of the Parika Police Station early Sunday, authorities said.
The incident occurred around 03:00 hrs after the victim visited the station to report an alleged assault. While he was within the compound, another man entered the premises, forcibly confronted him and began attacking him.
Police ranks on duty intervened immediately, arrested the attacker and brought the situation under control. The suspect, a 33-year-old vendor from Farm, East Bank Essequibo, was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where he was examined and listed in stable condition. He was later returned to the Parika Police Station and placed into custody pending investigations.
The victim left the scene following the assault, and police said efforts are ongoing to locate him.
Authorities said the entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras at the station and forms part of the ongoing investigation. The Guyana Police Force condemned the violence, stressing that police stations are places of safety and lawful redress. Investigations are continuing.
