Guyana is mourning the death of Pastor Patrick Findlay, a respected man of faith and public servant whose life was defined by quiet service, moral conviction and devotion to the common good, President Irfaan Ali said.
In a statement on Wednesday, President Ali described Findlay as a devout Christian whose faith guided both his private life and his public responsibilities. “His faith was not loud, but luminous; not performative, but practical,” the President said, noting that Findlay consistently lived the values he preached.

Findlay most recently served as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, a role the President said he carried out with dignity, restraint and fairness, despite its sensitivity and weight. In public service more broadly, he was regarded as a steady and principled figure, bringing balance, conscience and calm leadership to every responsibility entrusted to him.
Beyond his official roles, President Ali highlighted Findlay as a devoted family man and a pastor whose humility, compassion and patience shaped his interactions with others. His understanding of leadership, the President said, was rooted in the belief that authority must always be tempered by mercy.

“His passing leaves our nation thinner, poorer and diminished,” the statement said, adding that his loss is felt not only by his family and congregation, but by the country as a whole.
President Ali extended condolences to Findlay’s family, loved ones, colleagues and friends, saying the nation remains grateful for his service and inspired by his example. “Though his voice is now stilled, the echo of his life will remain,” the President said.
