President Dr. Irfaan Ali is receiving positive feedback as he promotes plans to develop and modernize green and biodiversity industries during a work visit to the United Kingdom.
On the first day of his mission, Ali held high-level meetings with King Charles III and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, both of whom expressed support for his green economy initiatives.
“King Charles has recommitted his support, lauding the work that has been done,” Ali said. “We exchanged ideas on financing, including a market-based biodiversity model that can support and build an ecosystem around it.”
Ali also highlighted collaboration with the Commonwealth on establishing a Centre of Excellence, integrated with similar centres worldwide. “This is important in a world where we have already lost 60 percent of our biodiversity,” he added.
The President said the government aims to position the country as a major player in biodiversity and ecosystem services to diversify and future-proof the economy, with new programs expected to boost local green industries.
