Investment chief: Budget people-centred, citizens are real return on investment
Chief Investment Officer, MP, Dr Peter Ramsaroop

The 2026 national budget has been hailed as people-centred and focused on delivering tangible results, with the government emphasising investment in citizens’ welfare and economic development.
Government MP Peter Ramsaroop expressed pride in the administration’s continued focus on putting people first, voicing strong support for the budget.

“The opposition can be predicted,” Ramsaroop said. “They think heckling is a strategy. But governing is not about noise; it is about results. And when they governed, they promised, they stalled, and they failed.”
He said the contrast between past performance and current delivery could not be clearer. Over the last five years, citizens have benefited from expanded healthcare services, free tertiary education, increased housing development, stronger social support programmes, improved infrastructure, and greater opportunities for workers and businesses.
“These are not projections. These are lived realities,” he said. “This is not theory. This is a track record.”
Ramsaroop emphasised that the budget reflects a deliberate governing philosophy that places people at the centre of economic development.

“When a child goes to school fed, when a pensioner lives with dignity, when a family moves closer to owning a home, when a small business finally accesses financing — that is not reckless spending,” he said. “That is investment with real returns. People are the return on investment.”
He pointed to concrete initiatives, including financing through the Guyana Development Bank, free tertiary education, expanded housing programmes, healthcare services closer to communities, and nationwide infrastructure projects that are being completed rather than merely announced.

Ramsaroop added that economic growth is now being driven across construction, agriculture, tourism, energy, manufacturing, and services, creating jobs in the short term while strengthening long-term competitiveness.
Addressing criticism from the opposition, he said the public is no longer persuaded by disruption in place of substance.
“The people remember who failed them,” he said. “They also see who is delivering now.”
Finance Minister Ashni Singh, who presented the budget, highlighted its focus on people-centred policies and measures designed to promote sustained economic growth.
Ramsaroop concluded by reaffirming the central message of the budget.
“This Government puts people first because that is how we have always governed — and the results speak for themselves,” he said.
