400 metres ace Arinze Chance is envisioning a great 2026 year after returning to the track in 2025.
Chance, who suffered stress fractures in both shins and was out for the 2023 and 2024 seasons, managed to finish second in the national rankings for 2025 in the 400 metres despite only returning to competition that year.
“Last year, 2025, was actually a pretty good season for me. I finished second in the national rankings for the 400 metres, just behind Malachi Austin, who has been doing a tremendous job. This year is just about continuing that momentum. I do believe that, given how practice has been going, my sessions have improved with my rehab and also in the weight room, and I am anticipating that I will have a great year,” Chance stated in a phone interview.
Further, the Bishops High School alumnus is hyper-focused on representing Guyana at every level possible in 2026.
“See, when you miss races or pretty much an entire season, you tend to appreciate every opportunity you get thereafter to race. So I’m just looking forward to representing Guyana at every level possible this year and as we head into 2027 and 2028 and the Olympic Games. The journey continues,” Chance confidently stated.
Chance will compete in his first event of 2026 at the opening of the Bayroc Synthetic Facility.
