Multiple drivers have been charged and fined for dangerous driving offences detected by traffic cameras under the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS), the Guyana Police Force said.
Among the drivers, Kelvin Roy Hardy, operating minibus BAL 20253, was fined $150,000 and had his licence suspended for four months. Other drivers received fines ranging from $40,000 to $50,000, while several cases were adjourned for further court proceedings.
The SRIS employs automated cameras and data-driven monitoring to detect traffic violations and support enforcement actions in the courts.
Court appearances between January 13 and 14 included:
• Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #2: Ernest Pollard (BAG 3019) and Manoj Amraj (BAH 2191) fined $50,000 each; several other drivers’ matters were adjourned to March 11.
• Georgetown Magistrate’s Court #7: Kimeon Bradford (BAG 8728) and Imtiaz Ahmed Baksh (BAL 2271) fined $40,000 each; Peter Frank (BAJ 9917) granted bail, matter adjourned to January 20.
• Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court #1: Kelvin Roy Hardy fined $150,000 with licence suspension; Dasrat Mirchand (BAK 2053) fined $50,000.
The Traffic Department said additional cases are expected as SRIS cameras continue to monitor roads. Authorities urged motorists to obey traffic laws and noted that offences detected by cameras will be pursued through the judicial system.
