Construction is underway across all eight lots of the four-lane Buzz Bee Dam to Land of Canaan Highway, the latest addition to the East Bank’s expansive Hero’s Highway road network.
President Dr Irfaan Ali, during a site visit on Tuesday, was informed that the project is moving ahead, with the most advanced lot having 57 per cent of its work completed.

The Buzz Bee Dam to Land of Canaan project is expected to be completed this year, with further expansions slated towards the Soesdyke/Linden Highway and onward to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport in Timehri.
President Ali highlighted the significance of the East Bank Demerara artery in servicing existing communities, as well as several major developments occurring along the corridor and its environs.

“The new Silica City will also be connected to this new highway,” he stated. “Outside of that we have about five other major developments like the Soesdyke/Linden highway that will see close to 2500 new homes being developed; and all of those persons will have to move, transportation link is important so all these communities will be connected.”
The President noted that extensive work is ongoing to transform the once heavily swamped area, including the construction of massive drainage structures and the building up of dug-out slush sections to as high as six feet in some cases. Additionally, power lines and other infrastructural facilities are also being implemented as part of a broader urban development plan.

“That shows you the magnitude and level of work that is needed in achieving the type of development and transformation that you are seeing,” the President indicated.
The Buzz Bee Dam to Land of Canaan project is pegged at $80.4B. It is part of Hero’s Highway, which connects the East Bank to Mandela Avenue in the city, as well as Ogle on the East Coast of Demerara.
