The Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining operations, permissions to operate and related authorisations belonging to 107 Brazilian nationals, following their failure to comply with regulatory requirements.

The commission said the action follows a public notice issued on January 2, 2026, which required the named individuals to present themselves to the GGMC. The suspensions take effect immediately and will remain in force until the affected persons engage with the commission and meet its compliance standards.

In a statement, the GGMC said the measure is without prejudice to any further regulatory or enforcement action the commission may lawfully pursue.

The suspended individuals are based mainly in Georgetown, Bartica and other mining communities, according to details released by the commission.

The GGMC did not specify the precise nature of the breaches but reiterated that all operators are required to comply fully with Guyana’s mining laws and regulations.

Guyana has intensified enforcement within its mining sector in recent years amid concerns over regulatory compliance, environmental protection and illegal mining activities.
