Two men, teen charged with murder of Chinese businessman

Two men and a 17-year-old juvenile have been charged in connection with the alleged murder of Yong Ping Chen during a robbery on December 22, 2025, in Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice, police said.

The accused were identified as Pieter Baker, 29, a pump operator from Fort Ordinance, and Clowin “Screech” Morris, 29, a labourer from Cumberland Village.

They appeared before Her Worship Michelle Matthias at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court on Friday. Baker and Morris were remanded to prison, while the teen was remanded to the Juvenile Holding Centre. The case has been adjourned to January 14, 2026.
