A 59-year-old man was killed early Monday in a hit-and-run accident on Cemetery Road, Georgetown, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Trevon Bacchus of Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown. He was riding electric cycle EM 6699 when he was struck from behind by a dark-coloured Toyota Rumion, motor car PAB 6212, at about 00:30 hrs.
Police said preliminary investigations indicate that the motor car was travelling north along the western drive lane of Cemetery Road at an alleged fast rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control and collided with the electric cyclist, who was proceeding north along the extreme western edge of the roadway.
After the collision, the driver continued north before turning west onto Princess Street without stopping. The driver, whose name, age and address remain unknown, is currently at large, and efforts are under way to locate and apprehend him.
Bacchus sustained severe injuries to his head and body and was transported in a semi-conscious state to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was pronounced dead at about 04:30 hrs while receiving medical treatment.
His body was later taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination. Police said CCTV footage is being reviewed as investigations continue.
