Business activity across the Essequibo Coast is poised for a significant boost with the introduction of the MV ARIS IV, a modern ferry that entrepreneurs and traders say will improve logistics, reduce transportation constraints, and expand commercial opportunities in Region Two.
With the capacity to transport over 300 passengers, 81 vehicles, or 19 large trucks per trip, the MV ARIS IV is expected to ease longstanding congestion at river crossings and provide greater reliability for the movement of goods, particularly during peak trading periods.
For business owners, the ability to move large trucks more efficiently is a major advantage. Traders anticipate faster delivery times, lower operational delays, and improved access to markets beyond the Essequibo. The improved reliability of river transport is also expected to encourage increased trade activity and attract new investments into the region.
Resident Parasram Singh said the new ferry will play a key role for the business community by allowing them to transport and market coconut water to other regions more efficiently. He thanked President Irfaan Ali for implementing an initiative that directly supports small and medium-sized enterprises.
Retailers and service providers across the coast have also welcomed the development, noting that smoother transportation will increase customer traffic and make it easier for suppliers and clients to travel to and from the Essequibo.
Kuldeep Ragubar said that he is very excited and noted that the ferry represents an important boost to both commerce and tourism. He added that improved transportation infrastructure is essential to economic growth and emphasised that the government has delivered on its commitment to support the region’s development.
Andy Ramnarine said that the vessel means a boost for the region. He added that more ferries mean increased business activity and a boost in tourism.
Beyond capacity, the MV ARIS IV offers modern features designed to enhance efficiency and comfort, including a double-ended design, comfortable seating, restrooms, a bar, and an air-conditioned crew cabin—ensuring dependable operations for both passengers and crew.
The ferry forms part of a wider government strategy to modernise infrastructure and strengthen national connectivity. Complementing this initiative is the ongoing upgrade of the Parika Stelling into a modern port facility with customs and immigration services, cold storage, and other essential facilities, further supporting trade and logistics.
As the busy Christmas season approaches, business owners are confident that the MV ARIS IV will ease transportation pressures, support economic expansion, and reinforce Essequibo’s role as a growing hub for commerce and investment.
