Two men were denied bail when they appeared at the Albion Magistrates’ Court in East Berbice, Corentyne, on Friday, in connection with the alleged rape of a 14-year-old girl.
The matter was heard by Magistrate Michelle Mathias. The accused are a 19-year-old man from Berbice and a 20-year-old male, who is currently on remand for an unrelated offence.
It is alleged that earlier this month, the two accused committed the offence at a house on the East Bank of Berbice.
According to the prosecution, the teenager was taken to the residence earlier that day by a 16-year-old female friend, where several males were present.
The court was told that the two accused allegedly forced the child into a room and raped her. The incident was later disclosed to the victim’s mother, who contacted the police.
An investigation was launched, and the suspects were subsequently arrested. After hearing the matter, Magistrate Mathias refused bail and transferred the case to the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Court, where it is scheduled to continue on January 5, 2026.
