Skull City being regularised: 33 households receive lots

The regularisation of the Skull City squatting area at Patentia on the West Bank Demerara is advancing with the Housing Ministry already allocated lots to 33 households, with the remaining allocations currently being processed.
Local Government Minister Priya Manickchand made this disclosure during an interaction with residents on a visit to the community on Wednesday. She noted that a cadastral plan has been lodged in the registry and that the block title is being prepared, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2026.
Manickchand also met with the contractor responsible for road works, who assured her that the accompanying drainage infrastructure would be completed by the end of January 2026. She added that engineers will examine whether a park and vendor strip can be developed on available land in the community.
During the visit, the minister engaged residents on ongoing works, listened to their concerns, and assessed environmental and infrastructural issues affecting the area. The regularisation initiative aims to ensure that residents of informal settlements benefit from organised, sustainable development and improved living conditions.
