Two men on Wednesday admitted to killing taxi driver Kenrick Trim during a robbery in 2021, when they appeared before Chief Justice (ag) Navindra Singh at the Demerara High Court.
Seyon James, known as “Lil Alfey,” and Kenty Bacchus, called “Trini,” both pleaded guilty to the capital offence, which stemmed from the fatal June 30, 2021 attack on the 53-year-old Belfield Housing Scheme resident.
State Prosecutor Geneva Wills is leading the case on behalf of the prosecution, assisted by attorneys Christopher Belfield and Simran Gajraj. Bacchus is being represented by Attorney-at-Law Audreanna Stephens, while Glendon Greenidge is appearing for James.
According to the agreed facts submitted to the court, the two men boarded Trim’s taxi — bearing registration HC5311 — outside Beacon Café on Carmichael Street, Georgetown, early on the morning of the incident. Once inside the vehicle, they overpowered the driver, choking him before James inflicted multiple stab wounds.
Trim’s body was later dumped in bushy terrain behind Pradoville, Ogle, on the East Coast of Demerara.
Investigators were led to the suspects after receiving intelligence that guided them to a location where Bacchus was allegedly found with Trim’s cellphone. Under a video- and audio-recorded interview, Bacchus reportedly admitted to his involvement and confirmed that he and James were the individuals captured on CCTV footage shown to him by the police.
The case has now moved to the sentencing phase. Bacchus is scheduled to be sentenced on December 16, while James will learn his fate on December 17.
