The annual Inter-Guiana Chess Competition will be held in Guyana from December 5–7, 2025 at the National Racquet Centre. Neighbouring chess teams from Suriname and French Guiana will join Guyana’s juniors, who will compete in a double round-robin format in both the Boys’ and Girls’ categories.
The National Sports Commission will provide key financial and logistical support, while personnel from the Guyana Chess Federation will be responsible for organising the competition.
Two teams, comprising four males and four females aged 14 to 18 from each country, will participate in a 60-minute plus 30-second increment time format.
The Boys’ Team features sixteen-year-old Kyle Couchman, fifteen-year-old Candidate Master (CM) Sachin Pitamber, sixteen-year-old Micaiah Enoe and fifteen-year-old Alexander Zhang.
The Girls’ Team includes fifteen-year-old Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Aditi Joshi, sixteen-year-old Ciel Clement, seventeen-year-old Maliha Rajkumar and eighteen-year-old Italy Ton-Chung.
The Inter-Guiana Chess Teams Tournament promises an exciting six-round showdown among the three nations. Last year, Guyana’s male and female junior teams earned silver, placing second overall. This year, with strong competition expected from regional rivals, the Guyanese juniors know they must significantly raise their game to bring home the gold. The teams, coached by FIDE Master Anthony Drayton and CM Taffin Khan, have completed extensive training and are ready for the decisive matches.
The Inter-Guiana Games is a tri-nation sporting event contested by athletes from Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The event includes competition in various sports and was originally established in Suriname to strengthen relationships and forge bonds among the three territories through sport and shared values. This is the 54th edition of the Games.
The tournament will be officiated by FIDE Arbiter John Lee, assisted by National Arbiters Jessica Callender and Kim Shing Chong. The games will be live-streamed on lichess.org. Full results and pairings can be viewed on chess-results.com and on the GCF’s website, guyanachess.gy.
