Visitors to the Rupununi now have six new ways to experience the region’s natural beauty and culture, following the launch of community-led, nature-based tourism products on Friday. The initiatives, part of Tourism Awareness Month 2025, include Camp & Catch: Fishing Adventure by Tara’s Choices and Tours, the Wontai Birding Experience by Dexter Da Silva, Quarrie Nature Escape by Quarrie Village, Sip, Splash and Splatter by Kumu Village, Moco Moco Camping Experience by Moco Moco Village, and the Capybara Camping Experience, a joint effort by Karanambu Lodge, Kwaimatta Village, and Quatatta Village.

The launch, held in Region Nine, brought together village leaders, tourism operators, and conservation partners who collaborated to design experiences that showcase local culture while promoting environmental stewardship.

Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce Susan Rodrigues praised the villages for embracing community-driven tourism models. She said the new experiences reflect the sector’s rapid growth and align with government priorities to empower communities and diversify Guyana’s tourism offerings. Rodrigues also noted that the Rupununi remains one of the country’s strongest regions for immersive nature and culture-based travel, building on earlier launches this month.

GTA Director Kamrul Baksh highlighted that community tourism in Region Nine is expanding steadily, with each new product contributing to job creation, skills development, and long-term sustainability within host communities.

With Friday’s rollout, a total of 15 new tourism experiences have been introduced nationwide this year, surpassing the government’s original target of 10. Officials said the milestone demonstrates the power of collaboration between government, communities, and private stakeholders, particularly in regions renowned for wildlife, pristine landscapes, and rich Indigenous heritage.

As Tourism Awareness Month concludes, authorities emphasised that continued development of community-led experiences ensures that tourism growth remains inclusive, sustainable, and deeply rooted in the people and places that define Guyana’s most distinctive travel offerings.
