President Irfaan Ali on Tuesday urged British companies to expand investment in Guyana beyond traditional sectors, saying the country is entering a “new era” of economic opportunity.
Speaking at a reception for the fifth UK Trade Mission, led by Britain’s Trade Envoy to the Commonwealth Caribbean Paulette Hamilton, Ali said Guyana offers substantial prospects in energy, technology, agriculture and eco-tourism, among other areas.
He encouraged UK businesses to pursue long-term partnerships with the government and local private sector, noting that his administration is focused on building a modern and sustainable economy.
“As you commence your mission, I want you to know that Guyana is ready. We are open for business. We are building not just for today, but for the next generation,” he said.
Ali added that trade between Guyana and the United Kingdom has tripled over the past four years, underscoring what he described as growing dynamism in bilateral commerce.
Several Cabinet ministers attended the reception, held at the residence of British High Commissioner Jane Miller.
