Gun found in New Amsterdam hotel washroom triggers police probe

A suspected illegal Taurus pistol with a magazine holding nine live rounds was found in the male washroom of the Leisure Inn Hotel and Bar in New Amsterdam early Sunday, prompting a police investigation.

Police said a 24-year-old security guard discovered the firearm around 02:00 hrs on the building’s lower flat and immediately alerted his supervisor, who contacted authorities.

Ranks photographed, secured and lodged the weapon and ammunition. No arrests have been made as investigations continue.
