Minister Persaud calls for national shift in support for men on International Men’s Day

In observance of International Men’s Day, Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Hon. Dr. Vindhya Persaud, attended the National Symposium on Men’s Health and Wellness at Herdmanston Lodge on Wednesday, where she delivered a compelling message about the importance of supporting men and boys across the country.

During her address, Dr. Persaud urged Guyanese men to pay attention to their mental and physical health, break the silence surrounding struggles, and embrace vulnerability as a sign of strength.

She highlighted the critical need for healthier relationships, strong mentorship for boys, and more supportive spaces for men, noting that such initiatives benefit not only individuals but families and communities as a whole.

The Minister also showcased several key programs already being implemented nationwide. These include men’s groups in eight regions, expanded Brave Centers, the Brotherhood of Safe Spaces, and a new Bridging the Gap Policy, which aims to strengthen families and prevent violence.

Reflecting on the broader impact of these initiatives, she reminded Guyanese that, “When men thrive, families and communities thrive. Let’s uplift our men, listen to them, and support them.”

The symposium was hosted by the Rotary Club of Stabroek, Brocode, and Woodlands Hospital, bringing together stakeholders committed to advancing men’s health and wellness in Guyana.
