Minister of Natural Resources, Hon. Vickram Bharrat, is representing Guyana at COP30 in Belém, Brazil, engaging in high-level discussions and bilateral meetings focused on forest conservation and climate action.

Yesterday, Minister Bharrat participated in a High-Level Roundtable hosted by the UK Government, in collaboration with the Nature4Climate Coalition and IUCN, discussing “Scaling Nature-based Solutions for COP30 Implementation.”
The Minister emphasized scalable financing for the forest sector, highlighting initiatives such as the Tropical Forest Forever Facility (TFFF) and the Jurisdictional REDD+ Program (JREDD+), both of which support forest conservation for climate protection.
He also held a bilateral meeting with Belize’s Minister of Sustainable Development, Hon. Orlando Habet, focusing on cooperation in sustainable forest management, impact logging reduction, forest restoration, bamboo management, and knowledge exchange within the forestry sector.
Minister Bharrat also delivered Guyana’s national statement at the opening of the High-Level Plenary Segment, reaffirming the country’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action.

Guyana and the United Kingdom co-chair the Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP), which has grown to over 30 member countries since its launch in 2022.
Minister Bharrat and UK Minister for Climate, Hon. Katie White, led the FCLP all-members meeting at COP30, discussing strategies to reduce forest loss by 2030, in line with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030 portfolio.
