Guyana and Indonesia signalled intentions to deepen bilateral cooperation on Tuesday as newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Indonesia, His Excellency Agus Priono, presented his Letters of Credence to President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali and later met with Minister of Public Works, Hon. Bishop Juan Edghill.
At the accreditation ceremony held at the Office of the President, President Ali and Ambassador Priono discussed opportunities to expand cooperation between the two countries.
The President highlighted potential areas for partnership in healthcare, tourism, and agriculture, while the Ambassador underscored the value of increased collaboration and scholarship opportunities for Guyanese students.
The engagement included a traditional toast with local coconut water.
That afternoon, Ambassador Priono paid a courtesy visit to Minister Edghill at the Ministry’s Secretariat.
Their meeting focused on strengthening ties in infrastructural development and identifying avenues for future cooperation as Guyana advances key national projects.
Guyana and Indonesia established formal diplomatic relations in August 1999.
The Ambassador’s visit marks renewed efforts to enhance collaboration across multiple sectors.
