Residents of Greenwich Wick Park on the East Bank of Essequibo are urgently appealing for intervention as a persistent bee infestation at one home in the scheme continues to threaten the safety of families — especially children.

According to residents, bees have taken over the gutters of a house whose owner has reportedly refused for more than a month to allow anyone onto the property to remove the swarm. During this period, several children have already been stung and had to seek medical treatment.

Residents say they alerted the Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC), and officials visited the location on multiple occasions. However, the homeowner allegedly denied them access, leaving the situation unresolved. Neighbours who rear livestock have also expressed fear for their animals and their own safety as the infestation worsens.

The community describes the situation as a growing public safety hazard. Despite repeated attempts to address the issue, no progress has been made, and residents are now calling for urgent intervention from all relevant authorities before someone is seriously harmed.

Elderly persons and children remain the most vulnerable, and residents warn that the longer the infestation remains unattended, the higher the risk of severe stings or a potentially life-threatening incident.

The community is appealing to all responsible agencies and leaders to take immediate action to protect the residents of Greenwich Wick Park.
