Puruni boat mishap: Bodies of security guards recovered

Police have recovered the bodies of two security guards who died after a boat capsized in the Puruni River, Middle Mazaruni, on Wednesday afternoon.

The victims have been identified as Patrice Grimmond and Kevis Robin, both employees of a private security firm. According to police, the aluminum vessel was traveling from a backdam area to Puruni Landing when it overturned around 16:00 hrs. Four people were on board; two, including the captain, managed to swim to safety.

Grimmond’s body was recovered on the day of the incident, while Robin’s was found the following day. Police also retrieved two firearms — a shotgun and an AR rifle — along with ammunition belonging to the security company.

No marks of violence were observed on the bodies, which were taken to the Bartica Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations. The recovered weapons and ammunition have been lodged as investigations continue.
