Infrastructure works valued at more than $21 billion are steadily advancing across four major housing developments on the East Coast of Demerara, Region Four, officials said on Wednesday.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr. Martin Pertab, inspected ongoing first-phase works at the Felicity, Chateau Margot, Success, and Le Ressouvenir Housing Developments.

He was accompanied by Director of Community Development Gladwin Charles, Senior Engineer Anthony Ragnauth, Surveyor Shaquille Mayers, and other technical staff.

The $21.4 billion investment covers the construction of crusher run roads, bridges, culverts, drainage networks, and pipe installations. The projects are expected to be completed before the end of the year.

During his site visits, Pertab urged contractors to maintain efficiency and adhere to timelines to ensure residents can begin occupying their new homes soon.

“Efficiency is critical at this time; we need the work to be completed on time so that occupancy can take place,” Pertab said.

He added that CH&PA’s focus extends beyond core infrastructure, highlighting the agency’s collaboration with the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) to finalise connections to the main water sources — a key step toward increasing occupancy across the new housing schemes.
