Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr. Martin Pertab, has called for the timely completion of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Access Road Project to ensure reliable electricity access for communities across Region Four.
Dr. Pertab conducted a site inspection on Tuesday, engaging with contractors and technical staff to review progress and address potential challenges, including the presence of farmers operating along the project route.
“It is important that we complete this project so that we can have electricity readily available to provide power to existing and new communities,” he said.
The access road, which will link South Ruimveldt to the GPL substation at Columbia (Mahaica), is being developed in 12 lots, each spanning approximately 4 kilometres of carriageway. The total investment is estimated at $5.58 billion.
Dr. Pertab focused on Lot 6, which stretches from Enterprise to Victoria, and also visited the Enmore Industrial Site on the East Coast of Demerara to assess ongoing development works.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Guyana’s energy distribution network while supporting new housing and industrial development across Region Four.
