The Alliance For Change (AFC) said it supports former Member of Parliament Devin Sears, who remains in police custody following the discovery of a quantity of suspected marijuana, but called for a fair and impartial investigation.
The party noted that another individual in the vehicle with Sears has claimed ownership of the suspected marijuana. It emphasized that all persons are entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty and reiterated its commitment to integrity, accountability, and lawful conduct among its members.
According to police, officers intercepted a dark blue Toyota Hiace minibus (BAJ 4486) registered to the Region 10 Tourism Committee Inc., which Sears was driving. Albert Sandy was a front-seat passenger. Police said Sears appeared nervous and claimed he was “transporting tourism plants.”
A search of the vehicle uncovered 22 bulky black plastic bags and four large brown canvas bags containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.
Both men were arrested and are in police custody.
The AFC urged the public and media to allow the judicial process to take its course and refrain from speculation that could prejudice ongoing investigations.
