The Guyana National Bureau of Standards (GNBS) is observing National Quality Week 2025 from October 12 to 18, ahead of World Standards Day on October 14, to highlight the importance of standards in national development. This year’s theme, “A Shared Vision for a Better World – Spotlight on SDG 17,” focuses on building partnerships to advance sustainable development.
SDG 17 emphasizes collaboration to achieve other sustainable development goals, including reducing poverty and hunger, ensuring quality education, providing clean water and energy, promoting industry and innovation, and encouraging responsible production and consumption.
As the national standards body, GNBS has established partnerships with key stakeholders in Guyana, including consumer groups, business associations, and regulatory bodies, often formalized through Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). These collaborations aim to promote the use of standards and foster a culture of quality across the country.
Internationally, GNBS has signed MOUs with organizations such as the American Petroleum Institute (API) and ASTM International, giving local industries access to the latest standards. GNBS also collaborates with other national standards bodies in the CARICOM region, measurement institutes, and international groupings, supporting Guyana’s quality infrastructure and advancing progress toward the SDGs.
Activities planned for National Quality Week 2025 include a secondary school speech competition in Region Two, media campaigns to raise awareness of standards, the GNBS Long Serving Awards to honour dedicated staff, and a stakeholder session at the International Business Conference on October 15.
Following the week’s events, GNBS will host the National Quality Awards 2025 in November to recognize local businesses demonstrating excellence and continuous improvement.
