OPR investigates alleged bribery by airport police officers

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that investigations are ongoing into allegations that an inspector and a junior-ranked officer attached to the Narcotics Branch at Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA), Timehri, accepted money from a female passenger to allow her to travel with frozen food.

The alleged incident reportedly took place on September 27, 2025. Following the complaint, the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) conducted an initial investigation and submitted the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

According to a police statement, the DPP has since provided legal guidance, and further inquiries are now underway.

In the meantime, both officers have been transferred from CJIA to the Tactical Services Unit as the investigation continues.

The Guyana Police Force reiterated its commitment to upholding accountability and transparency while the matter is being addressed.
