The New Amsterdam Secondary School in Region Six wrapped up Education Month 2025 on Tuesday with a vibrant science exhibition under the theme “Quality Education for National Development.”
Head of the Science Department, Ms. Bonita Samaroo Persaud, said the exhibition was designed to make science more engaging and practical for students.

“We, the science department, came together to exhibit our laboratory equipment and carry out both simple and complex experiments to make children aware of what is going on in our school. We do not believe in teaching just theory—we do it in practical. And when they see the practical aspect, it helps them more. It’ll give them an idea of what they want to do especially if they are in the science field, if they had the excitement within by watching movies or watching the TV it brings them alive, a full view of what they need and exposure so they will have a clearer view of what path they want to go,” she explained.
Students from all levels toured the exhibits throughout the day and were exposed to live demonstrations in chemistry, physics, and biology. Many eagerly interacted with teachers, asking questions and showing enthusiasm for the experiments.
Persaud also highlighted the contributions of donors who continue to strengthen the school’s laboratories.

“We’ve improved a lot because my department and myself, we work hard, we ask for donations, we seek help from all out there. We had our former president donate a million dollars to enhance the lab. Then we have Mr. Andrew Boyles from Erica Lab, who funded our labs with a lot of things. He’s one of our biggest donors in the lab. So we are moving slowly but surely,” she said.

The exhibition underscored this year’s Education Month theme by showing how quality education, grounded in both theory and practical application, can inspire students and contribute to Guyana’s national development.
