Guyana aims to welcome three million transiting passengers through its ports and attract at least one million visitors by 2030, Tourism Minister Susan Rodrigues said on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting with hoteliers, tour guides and operators, Rodrigues said the government will introduce a calendar of events beginning in January 2026, with at least one major activity each quarter, and step up international marketing under its “Destination Guyana” brand.

She urged the tourism sector to offer packages for the diaspora and staycation deals for locals during the off-season. A proposed benchmark of US$200 per day for Guyanese travellers could be used in national promotions, though it would not be mandatory, she added.

Rodrigues said information centres will be set up at ports of entry to give visitors details on events and attractions, while the government will also work with industry stakeholders to tackle high domestic travel costs and limited access to sites.
