There has been a significant increase in tourists booking tours to Guyana, President of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG), Mitra Ramkumar, has reported.
He said that while September is usually a slower month for the tourism industry, this year has been different, with visitors flocking to Guyana for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) cricket.
Speaking on the latest edition of Ignite Insights, Ramkumar highlighted a number of exciting side-trip experiences available for tourists.
“There are a number of day trips that you can do. You can do an Essequibo River tour where you touch many places on the Essequibo circuit, Fort Island, Saxacalli Beach, Arawai, Bartica, Baganara, Sloth Island. You can even choose one lodge or resort along the Essequibo and go for the day,” he highlighted.
Ramkumar added that businesses offering services such as Airbnbs and bed-and-breakfasts also benefit tremendously from the increase in tourist arrivals.
With September being designated Amerindian Heritage Month, Ramkumar said there are many cultural experiences available, while pointing to other attractive locations for exploration.
“You could do a day trip to Arrow Point [Nature Resort], you can go up the highway to Splashmins, there is also the ATV tour. You can catch a match and then go, or you can go and then catch the match in the evening. There’s a number of tours that one could have,” he emphasised.
Ramkumar explained that when tourists visit Guyana for specific events, the country’s rich and diverse culture often captivates them, prompting a return visit.
