New Police Headquarters 65 per cent complete

Construction on the new headquarters of the Guyana Police Force, housed within the new Brickdam Police Station in Georgetown, is on schedule, Engineering Consultant attached to the Ministry of Home Affairs Rawlston Adams has confirmed.

Adams joined Minister of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, Permanent Secretary Andre Ally, and others for a capital project site visit earlier today, where he noted that the US $28 million project is on track for scheduled completion in June 2026.

“As of today we’re just about 65 per cent completed. We would like to say we’re on time. The building is already enclosed and we’re starting the framing of the walls. We’ve already installed 90 per cent of the AC ducts, about 90 per cent of the sprinkler system. Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEPs), those are going way ahead of schedule,” he stated.

Adams added that most of the wastewater system has already been installed.

After touring the facility, Walrond said she was satisfied with the progress of works thus far as it aims at strengthening and advancing law enforcement infrastructure across the country.

“This is moving the headquarters here. So all of the services that are done at Eve Leary, you will now be able to access here. The Commissioner, the top level leadership of the Police Force, as well as this gonna be the divisional headquarters as well- because this is [Division] 4A- this is going to be situated here as well,” the minister noted.

She added that the overall vision is for a high-level world-class police force and the removal of bureaucracy as well as archaic methods of policing.

She also said the welfare of ranks is extremely important as they pursue the delivery of world-class police service delivery.

The ministry’s Permanent Secretary has been working to ensure that the work remains on target.
