WTC Georgetown officially launches in October

The World Trade Center (WTC) Georgetown will officially launch in October, Executive Director Wesley Kirton has announced.
The center is playing a major role in this year’s International Business Conference (IBC), in collaboration with the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce.
The IBC is scheduled for October 14 to 16, and according to Kirton, the official launch of the Trade Center will occur a few days prior.
Speaking on a recent edition of Ignite Insights, Kirton highlighted the significance of the collaboration and how the Trade Center is assisting local companies in becoming globally competitive.
Kirton pointed out that WTC Georgetown is one of over 300 trade centers globally, across about 102 countries, with over a million companies being part of the network.
“As a strategic partner, we think we bring to the effort a pool of companies, professionals who can tap into what is being offered at this conference– which is access to information, policy, how to be strategic, how to do particular things to be successful businesses, successful investors,” he said.
He added that the Center is seeking to broaden the scope of the conference’s participants.
“The focus of The World Trade Center Georgetown is primarily to help MSMEs– Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises. Not alone, but working with other organisations, agencies to help to prepare these businesses to be competitive, to be sustainably profitable,” Kirton said.
He stressed that the success of these businesses will depend on their ability to produce for the export market, since the local market is not large enough to ensure long-term sustainability.
Hence, he noted that the collaboration is essential for aiding businesses to become better equipped and more efficient.
