Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips on Thursday reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to deepening ties with Mexico as the two countries marked 51 years of diplomatic relations.

Extending congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Guyana, Phillips praised Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s leadership and wished the Mexican people continued prosperity.
“This celebration is a true reflection of Mexico’s vibrant cultural heritage and resilience. I extend best wishes for the continued success and prosperity of the United Mexican States,” he said.

Phillips noted that relations between Guyana and Mexico had been built on mutual respect, shared values and cooperation across bilateral, regional and multilateral platforms. He cited the CARICOM-Mexico Summit, the Organisation of American States (OAS) and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) as key forums for advancing ties.

He also pointed to the creation of the Mexico-Guyana Chamber of Commerce earlier this year as an important step in boosting trade and investment.

“Our government remains invested in our partnership and looks forward to continued collaboration with Mexico in addressing issues of shared interest with the renewed fervour to obtain meaningful solutions,” Phillips said.

The event, part of Mexico Day celebrations commemorating the country’s independence from Spain in 1810, also featured cultural performances highlighting Mexican traditions. (DPI)
