Chinese President Xi Jinping today congratulated President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on his re-election as President of Guyana, pledging to strengthen cooperation under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.
President Xi noted that Guyana was the first Caribbean nation to establish diplomatic ties with China, adding that relations had developed steadily over the past 53 years with “fruitful results” in trade, investment and multilateral coordination.
He recalled meeting Ali in Chengdu in July 2023, where both leaders agreed on steps to advance bilateral ties. Xi said he was ready to work with Ali to expand “mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation” and take relations “to new heights” for the benefit of both countries.
