Police Force warns against false claims during ballot recount

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) cautioned against the spread of unverified claims of ballot box tampering during the ongoing recount, saying the process is being carried out under tight security and in line with the law.

Police said the recount has been peaceful and transparent, with political party representatives and accredited observers monitoring. The force condemned the circulation of misinformation on social media and by political figures, warning that such actions could inflame tensions and undermine confidence in the electoral process.

Authorities urged stakeholders to avoid amplifying unverified allegations and said attempts to incite unrest or disrupt public order would face swift legal consequences.

The GPF said it remains committed to maintaining peace and security and continues to work with the Guyana Elections Commission and other authorities as the recount proceeds.
