Former national cyclist Alanzo Greaves lost his life in a motorcycle accident at about 23:30 hrs on Wednesday, along Mandela Avenue in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens.

Greaves, 36, of Gordon Street, Kitty, Georgetown, was riding a red, white, and black Ducati motorcycle (registration CH 5222) at the time of the incident.

Enquiries revealed that the motorcyclist was proceeding south along the eastern side of Mandela Avenue at a fast rate, without wearing a safety helmet. While in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens, he lost control of the motorcycle, causing it to veer in a south-easterly direction. The front wheel then struck a heap of mud on the extreme eastern edge of the road, beyond the continuous white line. Greaves sustained severe head injuries along with other bodily injuries.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and arrived shortly after. The injured motorcyclist was examined by Dr. Walcott, who pronounced him dead at the scene.

Investigations are ongoing.
