High praises are being extended to the people of Guyana and the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) by various groups, who continue to commend the smooth and mature execution of the 2025 General and Regional Elections.
With more issue-focused campaigns leading to a peaceful polling day, both international and local observers have expressed satisfaction with the work of GECOM, the electorate, and the nation’s overall growth.
Businessman and polling day observer Gerald Gouveia Snr., speaking during a special Ignite News election update, described the recent election season as one of the most sophisticated he has ever witnessed. He commended the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and newcomer We Invest in Nationhood (WIIN) for campaigning on issues that allowed citizens to make more informed choices.
“You heard a lot of what they would do better and how they would make the country better,” Gouveia noted. He added that while campaigns have traditionally focused on race, this season, although not entirely free of such sentiments, showed that citizens increasingly recognised they were being prepared for the future.
Chief Investment Officer at the Guyana Office of Investment (Go-Invest), Peter Ramsaroop, highlighted that in this new dispensation, GECOM has been able to better inform citizens by providing access to information and helping them identify where misinformation could be spread.
He said it was fascinating to see data in real time as Statements of Poll were received by the Commission. This, he explained, gave citizens a continuous flow of accurate information about party performance rather than relying solely on politicians’ words.
“What GECOM did, they really took away the lack of understanding from the ordinary citizen that what someone says may very well not be true.”
Ramsaroop emphasised that the availability of real-time information has brought calm to the nation. Even if some attempt to manipulate or distort it, citizens can always return to GECOM’s official source for accuracy. He concluded that Guyana should be proud of this advancement.
