Election results: PPP/C leaves WIN and APNU in the dust

The ruling People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) won 55.32 per cent of the vote in Monday’s General and Regional Elections, according to results posted by the elections commission, setting it on course for a second term in office.

The main opposition parties – A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) and several smaller groups – together secured 44.68 per cent, giving the PPP/C a margin of 46,530 votes, compared with just 6,390 in the 2020 contest.

“By any standard, this is a landslide,” Vice President and PPP General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo told reporters at the party’s Georgetown headquarters on Thursday.

The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has not yet issued its final declaration, but Dr Jagdeo hailed the vote as free, fair and peaceful, noting international observer missions confirmed the credibility of the process.

He thanked supporters and campaign workers across the country, saying their efforts carried the party’s message “to every community, even under difficult circumstances.”
