The home that was ransacked

Police in Berbice are investigating an incident at No. 19 Village, Corentyne, after a woman reported threats and the theft of valuables from her home.

Helen Kashi, 54, a self-employed resident, told police that on August 2 she was approached by a man, Rameshwar Ramdat, also known as Kevin, who was with others wearing a political party’s colours and celebrating. Kashi said Ramdat verbally abused her for supporting the We Invest in Guyana (WIN) party and threatened to burn her house.

Following the threat, Kashi spent the night at her mother’s home. This morning, she returned to find her house ransacked, a makeshift table scorched, and a gold chain worth $22,000 and $23,000 in cash missing.

Ramdat, 28, was arrested and is assisting police with their investigations. An investigative file will be compiled and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
