Although the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has not yet made an official declaration of the 2025 General and Regional Elections, preliminary data suggests that the incumbent People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) has secured an early advantage in the polls.
According to Statements of Poll (SOPs) released on GECOM’s official website, the PPP/C is ahead in seven of the country’s 10 administrative regions — specifically Regions One, Two, Three, Four, Five, Six, and Nine.
At least 98 per cent of all SOPs have been uploaded to the site, providing the most comprehensive picture of the electoral outcome to date.
The PPP/C entered this election emphasising its track record in government, highlighting infrastructure development, housing distribution, healthcare expansion, and social welfare programmes as evidence of promises delivered.
The opposition, spearheaded by A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC), campaigned on issues of governance, transparency, and the equitable distribution of Guyana’s oil wealth.
However, the preliminary results appear to show the PPP/C maintaining significant support in both its traditional strongholds and more competitive regions.
While GECOM continues to finalise the count, political observers note that the publication of SOPs online has increased transparency compared to past elections, where delays in result announcements often triggered public unease.
Regional and international observers have also been monitoring the process, calling for calm and patience as the final stages of tabulation are completed.
The official results, once declared, will determine the allocation of parliamentary and regional seats and set the tone for Guyana’s governance in the coming years, particularly as the country navigates its growing role as one of the world’s fastest-expanding oil economies.
