People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) General Secretary Dr Bharrat Jagdeo on Monday urged supporters to remain patient as results of the General and Regional Elections are released slowly.
“To the population and PPP supporters be patient. It is going to be a long night. Results are going to come in in little dribbles from across the country,” Jagdeo said, adding, “It is hard to form an opinion based on what you see on individual Statements of Poll. We have a macro picture and as far as I see it’s a good picture.”
Jagdeo said all Statements of Poll are expected to be uploaded by Tuesday, giving “every Guyanese” access to the full results.
He said early trends confirmed expectations that the opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) faced “a very difficult night,” with its traditional support splitting among the PPP, the newly formed WIN party and APNU itself. “That party will have some serious introspection to do,” he said.
Jagdeo argued that APNU miscalculated by betting WIN would weaken the PPP and lead to a minority government. Instead, he said, WIN is drawing votes from APNU and only “a small number” from the PPP.
He also noted that voter turnout appeared lower than in 2020, particularly in some urban areas.
